Cambodia, China Pledge to Enhance Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors

PHNOM PENH, May 23, 2024 — Cambodia and China have reaffirmed their strong relationship, committing to deepen and broaden their cooperation across various sectors for mutual benefit at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

During a meeting at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon, Prime Minister Hun Manet and Mr Shohrat Zakir, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, discussed plans to enhance collaboration. Key areas of focus include economic and trade relations, societal and cultural exchanges, tourism, education, vocational training, people-to-people interactions, industrial and technological advancements, expanding Cambodian agricultural exports to China, and developing the Fish and Rice Corridor, as well as the Industrial and Technology Corridor.

Mr Shohrat Zakir praised Cambodia's progress, especially in Phnom Penh, and shared positive outcomes from his meeting with Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia.

Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation for the fruitful discussions between the legislative leaders and thanked the Chinese government and people for their ongoing support in Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

Hun Manet also reiterated the commitment of the 7th-mandate Royal Government to continue fostering and expanding the cooperative relationship between Cambodia and China.
